Fern Spackman
My earliest artistic memory is from two years old, standing in front of freshly painted living room walls... drawing on the wall with red crayon. Red is still my favorite colour. The result was not a great work of art (nor one well received by the house painter for that matter!) but obviously colour and self expression have been an important part of who I am for a very long time. Then I discovered the photos in National Geographic magazines. They captivated my youthful attention for hours on end as I dreamt that someday I, too, could capture powerful images. I still dream of that and constantly learn and grow as an artist and photographer with each photo I take. Raised in a rural area on the west coast of Vancouver Island, there is a special place in my heart for the beauty of the natural world. I hope my photos communicate to you the beauty, peace, wonder and humour that I find in the natural environment.
